For more than 60 years, the American Institute of Indian Studies has provided funding to pre- and post-doctoral scholars and artists in pursuit of knowledge about India. AIIS fellows contribute to the scholarship and understanding of India through this program.

Each AIIS fellow is affiliated with an Indian Institution of Higher Learning approved by the University Grants Commission.  Senior AIIS Fellows are encouraged to give talks, engage in collaborative projects with affiliated institutions.  Junior fellows engage in workshops or conferences with affiliated institutions.
